SCAD X HARBOR - Week 8
Hello, this is my eight week of the Scad x Harbor blog!
Feedback From Mentors:
For shots 2 and 3, I changed the texture of the floor and increased the displacement, so it no longer looks as flat.
Luke:
-
Shot 1: push DOF (through in grain, expo glow(subtle))
Hailey:
- Shot 1: Bg is out of focus/Fg is sharp
- Shot 1: sparks are black, not reading as sparks
- Shot 6: square reflection feels odd/lighting is improved
- Shot 2/3: floor texture is flat
Kyle:
-
Shot 1: fix faceting on burner rim
-
Bg to Fg blur needs improving
-
flames are not integrated - blue/light and heat flare on lens/heat haze
-
sparks should glow
-
add cam move at the end of shot 1
-
shot5/6: more DOF
-
fix logo - more modern
-
export video 23.98, not 30 fps

This week, I focused more on helping Caleb render different passes for compositing. I separated the scene into six parts, which provides flexibility for control in Nuke. I used Render Geometry Settings to separate the objects I wanted.

For the environment smoke, what I need is for the pot at the bottom to block it, so I need to add a matte. This is what the pass looks like.

Another annoying issue with the rendering is that due to limited memory, it keeps crashing when I save to disk. So, I first separate the different objects, then split the USD files by frame range, and this makes the export process work fine.
